FANCY A SLICE OF ME
Ciccy used her body as the critical element in this collection, as objectification of her ethnicity, gender and identification. In other words, her “they-self”. The designer regards the verbal and physical manipulation of “others” targeting her body as an act of shaping the so-called “they-self”. Slice as another crucial feature, could trace back to her early education in medicine. The designer esteems the observation of human tissue slices as an objective method to acknowledge physical beings. By the action of deconstructing the body into slices and reconstructing them piece by piece, Ciccy reproduced the abstract birth of the “they-self”. Drawing from her personal experience, Ciccy considers the process of slicing her physical body as self-research, through which she discusses the contradiction of the necessary existence of the “they-self”. This paradox further links to personhood, which, by definition is biologically, philosophically and societally in tight connection with the presence of community.
